How to choose grow lights?

The HID lamp is very bright, the efficiency is very high, but the price is also high. One 1000-watt HID lamp can produce the same amount of light as 50 40-watt fluorescent lamps. In the HID category, there are several types of bulbs: high pressure sodium lamp, metal halide lamp, low pressure sodium lamp and mercury vapor lamp. The only thing indoor gardeners need to worry about is high-pressure sodium lamps or metal halide lamps. The more common specifications are 400W and 1000 watts. The 400 watts provide enough light for a garden of about 15 square feet (1.4 square meters). A 1000 watt lamp can cover an area of about 4.5square meters. For rapid growth, about 25 watts of HID lamps can be used every 0.09m2. The metal halide lamp is blue and white, which is conducive to the luxuriant growth of leaves and the compactness of plants. It is easy to use as the main light source. A single bulb lasts about 10000 cumulative hours. The light bulb will last for more than 10000 hours, but the light will decrease, so replace it before burning it. Metal halide lamp is also a lumen power supply. They produce up to 125 lumens per watt, while standard fluorescent lamps produce 39 lumens per watt and standard incandescent bulbs produce 18 lumens. High pressure sodium lamp is red and orange, which is more suitable for flowering plants. It is also economical because its average life is twice as long as metal halide lamps. High pressure sodium lamps produce up to 140 lumens per watt. Their main disadvantage is that they do not produce light in the blue spectrum. If high-pressure sodium lamps are the only source of plants, then plants will grow slim, which is not the type of plant most gardeners want. How long the growth lights should be turned on should be based on the plants and their needs. Most plants and vegetables need about 10 to 12 hours of light a day to grow. Plants that produce fruit or flowers need more time: up to 16 hours a day. 

LED grow light
